Sheila Roberts lives on a lake in the Pacific Northwest. She's happily married and has three children. She loves to read, play her bass, and party with her girlfriends. And now she’s caught the gardening bug and is working hard trying to turn her black thumb green. Her free monthly e-newsletter Super You provides great living ideas for women.
Is Love In Bloom set in Heart Lake, like your previous book?
As a matter of fact, it is. And you get to know more about the town and the people who live in it, which is fun. I am really coming to love Heart Lake!
Did this idea spring from a love of gardening?
Not exactly. I never was into gardening until recently. I'm not sure if I've reached the stage where I can call it love - I think I have more of a "like" of gardening. One thing I am finding out, gardening is very addicting.
One of your heroines has faced and survived breast cancer at a young age. Is this something you have had to cope with in your life?
No, happily, it's not. But I have sure gone down this road with dear friends. It's a nasty, horrible life-stealing disease. Early detection is everything.
This book follows three different women: Hope Walker, Millie Baldwin, and Amber Howell. Which character was your favorite?
I love Hope because she's so giving. I love Millie because she's old and wise and inspiring. I love Amber because she hangs in there and keeps on trying. But my favorite character is Hope's younger sister, Bobbi, the comic relief character in the book. She was so much fun to write.
In your previous books, On Strike for Christmas and Bikini Season, you included recipes. Are there recipes in this book?
Not this book. Instead, I've included some great gardening tips. And, speaking of gardening tips, in honor of Love in Bloom, we're running a contest on my website. Share your favorite gardening tip and you could win some lovely prizes.
What would you say is the underlying message of this book?
Live life to the fullest!
Will we be seeing more books with stories set in Heart Lake?
Absolutely. Look for Angel Lane, which will hit the shelves this fall.
