It’s been a month since Charley woke up in an alley behind the café where she now works as a waitress. She has no recollection of how she got there, or why, but she does know at least one thing – her coworker, Cookie, cares about her wellbeing. The amnesia that has claimed Charley’s memory hasn’t affected her supernatural abilities, however, and she’s well aware of the paranormal activity that has become part of her everyday life.
Charley’s amnesia has everyone, from her Uncle Bob to Reyes Farrow, more than a little concerned, but Charley has other things on her own agenda. Something’s not right with the kind gentleman who owns the store adjacent to the café, and Charley is determined to get to the bottom of whatever is going on. There’s a small matter of several people needing to cross over, a falsely accused murderer, and other things needing Charley’s attention, but she’s a bit distracted by the devastatingly handsome, hunka hunka of burning love her boss has just hired to help out in the kitchen…
Everyone in Charley’s entourage knows that she must resolve the matter of her amnesia in her own time and in her own way, but there’s growing concern about the timetable involved – or lack thereof. Charley is never one to avoid taking a risk, but when push comes to shove, her support system is unyielding, undeniable….and unwordly.
The Dirt on Ninth Grave is the latest in author Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series, and it’s worth every minute fans have waited since the last installment in this sizzling hot series. While it takes a few pages of reading to figure out who, what and where Charley is, it is the “how” and “why” that drive this story to its unprecedented conclusion. As always, Jones excels at weaving subplots involving Charley’s abilities seamlessly through the story, creating interest but also driving the plot forward on many levels. Reyes is as devastating and sexy as ever, which is in itself a joy! What’s next for Charley and Reyes – one can only imagine! But we’ll know soon – The Curse of Tenth Grave comes out in June, 2016!
