Crowned and Dangerous (A Royal Spyness Mystery)
By Rhys Bowen
Lady Georgiana Rannoch simply can’t believe it: she and her beau Darcy O’Mara are finally going to get married! It has been three years since they first met, but now Darcy has surprised Georgie by whisking her away to Gretna Green, where they can be wed without having to worry about securing the approval of the British royal family. However, before the couple has even reached Scotland, they are first delayed by an unexpected blizzard that shuts down all the roads going north. Then Darcy learns that his estranged father, Lord Kilhenny, has been arrested for murdering the American, who bought up the family’s castle and stables. With their plans for marrying put on hold as Darcy heads back home to Ireland and his father, Georgie finds herself at loose ends. Then Georgie realizes that even though they might not be officially husband and wife yet, her place is at Darcy’s side helping him find the real killer!
This sparkling addition to Bowen’s “Royal Spyness” series has charm to spare as the author once again skillfully conjures up a cast of effortlessly engaging characters (including the delightfully entertaining and wonderfully enterprising Princess Alexandra Zamanska) and then sets them loose in an artfully crafted plot that is composed of equal measures of Golden Age inspired sleuthing, madcap comedy and sweet romance. Long-time fans of Georgie and new readers alike will quickly find themselves falling for this beguiling historical mystery that aptly proves that detection is always more fun when it is served up with plenty of wit and style.
