Pekoe Most Poison (A Tea Shop Mystery)
By Laura Childs
Berkley Prime Crime
A Rat Tea Party in historical Charleston sounds intriguing and Theodosia Browning is happy she was invited even though she is not a close friend of the hosts, Doreen and Beau Briggs. The servers are dressed in rat costumes to match the theme. A candle is knocked over and sets the centerpiece on fire at the Briggs' table and moments later Beau falls over dead.
Theo owns the Indigo Tea Shop where her dear friend Drayton is the tea sommelier. He is also a friend of Doreen's who asks him to get Theo to help find Beau's killer by offering to make a donation to his favorite charity. Theo is more than happy to start snooping and working on the case. There are several suspects but when Theo gets too close to learning the truth and they find their own lives in danger.
Childs knows how to write a great cozy mystery! There is plenty of local flavor to make the reader feel like they are in Charleston and mixed with returning characters from previous books in the series and the feeling of community. A great fast read with plenty of twists and turns. An added bonus are recipes at the back of the book.
