What Happens in Scotland
By Jennifer McQuiston
Lady Georgette Thorold has travelled to visit her cousin in Scotland, eager to escape London and her memories of her late husband. When she wakes up in bed with a handsome stranger, with no memory of how she arrived there, she realizes that, in all likelihood, she has made a terrible, terrible mistake.
In the meantime, her handsome stranger, solicitor James MacKenzie is searching for answers – what exactly did happen at the pub last night? Is he or is he not married? Who and where is Lady Georgette Thorold? And where the devil is his horse, Caesar?
When James and Georgette finally meet again, they attempt to resolve the matter of the previous evening. Each has limited memories of the events that led to their waking up in bed together, but both know that their marriage, if there is one, should not continue. There is that small matter of the physical attraction they each feel, let alone the empathy and depth of feeling that has sprung between them quickly to consider. And both of them are painfully aware that there is still someone willing to commit murder to be sure that the marriage doesn’t stand….
What Happens in Scotland is an irresistible romance with more than just one interesting twist along the way to a happy ending. An unlikely beginning blossoms into a trusting relationship, but not without lots of bumps in the road, and the development of the romance between James and Georgette is sweet and compelling. This is a strong debut from author Jennifer McQuiston – romance readers should add her name to their must read list post haste!
