A Jesse Parker Mystery ~ Book One
Following his divorce and then a tragic police shoot-out gone wrong, Denver Detective Jesse Parker returns to his home town of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and takes a winter job with the ski patrol. He honestly believes that he is through being a law enforcement operative. However, when a serial killer begins leaving bodies in Mount Werner’s ski-lift’s cable cars with absolutely no clue as to how he, the killer, manages to get out of the cars unseen, Sheriff Lee Torrens knows she is in over her head and drafts Jesse as a deputy. Lee and Jesse grew up together, were sweethearts and lovers, and when Jesse was in the process of his divorce, it was Lee who held his hand. Jesse can’t refuse Lee anything, and is made the lead detective on the Mountain Murderer case. Jesse and Lee work well together, and their close history leads them to an intimacy they both want.
The notoriety of the murders is beginning to have an effect on the economy of the town, as skiing is the number one cash cow. The town’s problems are also being noticed by network news stations that are sending reporters to Steamboat Springs. One of these reporters is Jesse’s ex-wife, Abby, a beautiful, intelligent woman who wants her husband back.
In STORM PEAK, John A. Flannigan, an internationally bestselling author, gives the reader a richly plotted narrative, provocative characters, and moves this tale at a perfect, but rapid, pace. STORM PEAK is the first of an extraordinary new mystery series featuring Jesse Parker and the author pulls out all the stops – romance, action, a pernicious villain, dramatic life-or-death rescues, and a tarnished hero in the middle of it all.

Good Steamboat mystery: (2010-04-16)
Book was certainly a page turner. I am a fairly slow reader and managed to finish in a few weeks, which for me is quick, not lots of time to spend at a sitting. Best part of the book is that I am a regular at the resort and the many references to places in town, restaurants, etc... are all accurate. The description of the actual ski runs themselves and the regular mentioning of the gondola really kept my attention. It was supposed to be a mystery, at least that is how it was categorized here, and it fit that bill, just didn't really leave many things hanging out there to try and guess at. As a result of the book reading fast, the mystery didn't last long from chapter to chapter. For those of you that are looking for a quick read, not bad story, and are familiar with the Steamboat Springs area then I recommend this for you.
Great new series from Flanagan: (2010-03-28)
Jesse Parker is a cop returning to his roots after a tragic incident. He returns to the mountains and of course an incident happens that requires his special skills. I had never read Flanagan before but picked it up for a two for one deal with his new book Avalanche. I found it entertaining and well worth the price. The action is steady and would you believe realistic. There was no super heroics just good believable action. I finished the book in a day and then started on Avalance and it was again a good read. Well worth the time to read and a good series to follow.
Fun ski-town mystery!: (2010-03-23)
While on a ski trip, this was recommended by a neighbor. It was a fun, serial killer/cop mystery. It started a little slow, but picked up speed. I couldn't put it down by the end. (However, you won't want to get on a gondola alone again--even in the daylight! Trust me!)
enjoyable police procedural: (2010-02-04)
In July 2003, Denver police detectives Jesse Parker and Tony Vetano were on a drug bust assignment when a DPD black and white patrol car stopped. All hell broke out, but by the time the bullets stopped flying Tony was dead from one of Jesse's bullets. Exonerated, he quit the force anyway and came home to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where he obtains a ski patrol position. In Steamboat Springs Routt County Sheriff Lee Torrens needs help with a particularly brutal homicide as she knows she is out of her league. Although well aware of why Jesse quit the police force and personally knowing why he left town several years ago., Lee asks her friend to help with the investigation into the stabbing murder of thirty-four year old Alexander Howell. The former cop and the sheriff work together as more homicides occur and their feelings for one another as teens remain as strong as it did then. This is an enjoyable police procedural with a simmering romantic subplot that enhances the inquiry, but never intrudes on the serial murder case. Lee is a wonderful dedicated Sheriff while Jesse has battle fatigue stress disorder coping with issues that he knows will never close. Although maniacal serial killers have flooded the market, sub-genre fans will appreciate this strong Rocky Mountains whodunit. Harriet Klausner
