Product Description:

Sebastian Gage returns home to battle the ghosts of his past and prevent them from destroying his future with Kiera in the latest exciting installment in this national bestselling series.

July 1831. It's been fifteen years since Sebastian Gage has set foot in Langstone Manor. Though he has shared little with his wife, Lady Kiera Darby, about his past, she knows that he planned never to return to the place of so many unhappy childhood memories. But when an urgent letter from his grandfather reaches them in Dublin, Ireland, and begs Gage to visit, Kiera convinces him to go.

All is not well at Langstone Manor. Gage's grandfather, the Viscount Tavistock, is gravely ill, and Gage's cousin Alfred has suddenly vanished. He wandered out into the moors and never returned. The Viscount is convinced someone or something other than the natural hazards of the moors is to blame for Alfred's disappearance. And when Alfred's brother Rory goes missing, Kiera and Gage must concede he may be right. Now, they must face the ghosts of Gage's past, discover the truth behind the local superstitions, and see beyond the tricks being played by their very own eyes to expose what has happened to Gage's family before the moors claim yet another victim...

Keira and Gage have traveled straight from Ireland to Langstone Manor, Gage’s ancestral home. Gage has been summoned by his ailing grandfather to look for his heir, Gage’s cousin Alfred, who has gone missing somewhere out on the treacherous moors. Despite Alfred’s usually disreputable behavior, this lengthy disappearance goes against the norm, and everyone at the Manor is concerned for his well-being.

There are long standing secrets and past mysterious deaths that still carry much weight all these years later, and Keira and Gage can’t help but consider the past as they investigate what has happened to Alfred. They’ve made little progress toward finding Alfred when his brother Rory also disappears, adding even more confusion to the already mystifying situation.

Neither Keira or Gage are superstitious, but the locals certainly are, and it is beginning to look like the curse that is supposed to plague Gage’s family may actually have a basis in fact. After all, the same things keep happening time after time, generation after generation. Or do they? Perhaps another force is at play, one much more human than supernatural.

A Brush with Shadows is the sixth “Lady Darby” mystery, and once more Keira and Gage have put their knowledge, instincts and abilities to solving a mystery for a client – only this time the mystery and client are both familial. Family or not, the puzzle remains delightfully knotted until the very conclusion of the story, with blind alleys and unexpected twists to keep any mystery-lover fully engaged. Keira and Gage are an interesting couple, very much married and in love yet still holding many secrets from each other, so that is another compelling aspect of the series. Unique and clever, this series is historical mystery at its very best!
