Product Description:

The Inn at Hemlock Fall reopens for readers!

Bernard LeVasque has opened a multi-million dollar cooking school in Hemlock Falls-and has even stolen customers from Sarah and Meg Quilliam's Inn. But someone finds the infamous chef too bitter-and takes him off the menu for good.

Amateur sleuths and sisters, Meg and “Quill” Quilliam return in “Toast Mortem,” newest in the well loved Hemlock Falls series by Claudia Bishop. The sisters are co-owners of the Inn at Hemlock Falls, and this installment of the series finds their business and livelihood threatened by a multi-million dollar cooking academy that has recently opened in their village. Bernard LeVasque, chef extraordinaire, has made it no secret that he plans to conquer the restaurant business in their little hamlet. When Bernard turns up dead, stabbed in the neck with a knife, one of the sisters is immediately suspected.

Thankfully, she is out of jail in a flash, but that doesn’t mean the case is even close to being solved. Local characters abound, and the addition of a mysterious tour group that has booked the Inn for a full week stirs the pot of potential suspects even more. Meg and Quill are kept busy trying to run their own business, let alone solve Monsieur LeVasque’s murder.

When another person turns up dead, clues point towards one of LeVasque’s former employees who now happens to work for Meg and Quill. The sisters begin to narrow their list of potential suspects, but even that list is huge! In isn’t until the final page-turning chapters that the clues begin to align and the keys to solving the murders become apparent.

Toast Mortem is a charming and well written cozy mystery. Claudia Bishop is to be commended for writing a book that is part of a series yet stands alone very well for newcomers to the Hemlock Falls Mysteries. A list of characters is included, a welcome addition for any reader of the series. Inclusion of recipes, cooking hints and more with a splash of humor at the beginning of each chapter add even more charm to this delightful series. Make reservations to dine at the Inn at Hemlock Falls, and be sure to bring your book!
