Product Description:

The Winter Market in the French Quarter is in full swing, but murder isn’t taking a holiday in this festive mystery in the New York Times bestselling Scrapbooking series.

The holidays are a busy time for scrapbook shop owner Carmela Bertrand—but not so hectic that she doesn’t have time to enjoy browsing the booths at the Winter Market with her best friend, Ava. The last thing the ladies expect to see is a lurching man stabbed by a serving fork, dying in front of them.

The victim is loathed restaurant critic Martin Lash, who posted his scathing reviews on the Glutton for Punishment website. And the prime suspect is New Orleans restaurateur Quigg Brevard—who was seen giving the critic a tongue-lashing minutes before someone stuck a fork in him. An old flame of Carmela’s, Quigg asks for her help, which does not please her current beau, Detective Edgar Babcock, to say the least.

Before her relationship is the next victim, Carmela needs to find a murderer who had no reservations about punishing the culinary curmudgeon…

“The plot is detailed with layers of mysteries...The rich descriptions and dialog bring this story to life.”—Open Book Society

SCRAPBOOKING TIPS INCLUDED!

Carmela Bertrand is caught up in snooping again when another murder victim falls over right at her feet. She and best friend Ava have just over heard a yelling match between the victim and Quigg Brevard, her old boyfriend. Quigg asks Carmela to help prove his innocence in the newest Scrapbooking Mystery, Crepe Factor, by Laura Childs.

Carmela's current boyfriend and local detective Edgar Babcock warns her not to get involved. Of course Carmela crosses her fingers and promises not to investigate on her own but she is soon knee deep in the bayous near New Orleans chasing down leads. The victim, Martin Lash, was involved in protecting the environment, specifically the bayous but he also wrote scathing reviews about the local restaurants. Some were so vicious that diners stayed away and ruined business at some of the eateries.

Lash was stabbed with a cooking fork so fingers are pointed at the restaurant owners but at the same time people he worked with at the environmental agency did not like him. Carmela's snooping may just prove dangerous and also get her in trouble with her boyfriend.

Childs weaves the story around New Orleans and readers who have been there will recognize the landmarks. Carmela owns the local scrapbooking store so the novel is centered around the shop with lots of hints for scrapbooking enthusiasts. Ideas and recipes for projects and foods mentioned are found at the back of the book. I have read several books from this series and feel like I have a connection with Carmela and other local characters who reappear. I am looking forward to the next mystery in the series.
