Product Description:

In this mystery in the New York Times bestselling series, librarian Charlie Harris and his cat Diesel have to battle a killer when a set of Civil War diaries inspires murder...

Lucinda Beckwith Long, the mayor of Athena, Mississippi, has donated a set of Civil War-era diaries to the archives of Athena College. She would like librarian Charlie Harris to preserve and substantiate them as a part of the Long family legacy—something that could benefit her son, Beck, as he prepares to campaign for the state senate.

Beck’s biggest rival would like to get a look at the diaries in an attempt to expose the Long family’s past sins. Meanwhile, a history professor is also determined to get her hands on the books in a last-ditch bid for tenure. But their interest suddenly turns deadly, leaving Charlie with a catalog of questions to answer. Together with his Maine Coon cat Diesel, Charlie must discover why the diaries were worth killing for before he too reaches his final chapter.

INCLUDES A BONUS SHORT STORY

This sixth installment of the Cat in the Stacks series is just as charming and well-written as its predecessors. Archivist Charlie Harris and his beloved Maine Coon companion Diesel find themselves caught up in Civil War intrigue . . . in the 21st century.

Athena, Mississippi, mayor Lucinda Long brings Charlie a set of newly discovered diaries from her husband's several times great-grandmother, who lived in Athena during the Civil War. Mayor Long wants to donate the diaries to the college library. Charlie is thrilled at the donation, until he's beset by several people who are determined to get their own hands on the precious books. Little does Charlie realize that what's contained in the diaries could be worth killing over.

The reader becomes as enthralled with the story told by the diaries as with what's happening with Charlie. And the old story becomes entwined with the modern one, leaving Charlie to try to unravel why someone would kill over the diaries. He hopes he can figure it out before he and Diesel become the next targets.

As always, the story and plot flow effortlessly throughout the book. Charlie and his cast of supporting characters are quintessential Southerners - even Diesel seems to understand how to behave in the South!  The short story describing how Charlie met Diesel is a bonus! Another wonderful cozy mystery from Miranda James - fans of cozies, cats, and Civil War tales shouldn't miss it!
