My name is Amelia Gray. I'm the Graveyard Queen.

Restoring lost and abandoned cemeteries is my profession, but I'm starting to believe that my true calling is deciphering the riddles of the dead. Legend has it that Kroll Cemetery is a puzzle no one has ever been able to solve. For over half a century, the answer has remained hidden within the strange headstone inscriptions and intricate engravings. Because uncovering the mystery of that tiny, remote graveyard may come at a terrible price.

Years after their mass death, Ezra Kroll's disciples lie unquiet, their tormented souls trapped within the walls of Kroll Cemetery, waiting to be released by someone strong and clever enough to solve the puzzle. For whatever reason, I'm being summoned to that graveyard by both the living and the dead. Every lead I follow, every clue I unravel brings me closer to an unlikely killer and to a destiny that will threaten my sanity and a future with my love, John Devlin.

The project that was nearly the undoing of cemetery restoration expert Amelia Gray has been completed, but the spirit world continues to torment her. Amelia is experiencing sightings of a ghost that looks eerily familiar, and the presence of something or someone in the cellar and walls of her home has Amelia feeling unsettled, to say the least.

An offer to begin a new restoration seems a bit suspect to Amelia, but she’s intrigued by all of the clues that have been turning up regarding this particular location. Curiosity trumps fear, however, and Amelia goes forward with her plan to investigate the cemetery that draws her like a moth to a flame.

There is a great deal of folklore and conjecture regarding this cemetery and a nearby home, and Amelia struggles to discern fact from fiction, while also realizing that she may well have a personal connection to the long-ago inhabitants of the area. As the story unfolds, Amelia draws closer to the truth, but the truth only serves to create more questions as Amelia learns what the purpose of her visit has been all along.

The Visitor is book number four in author Amanda Stevens’ The Graveyard Queen series, and it is one of the most chilling of the Amelia Gray stories thus far. Amelia has come into her own, and her romance with police officer John Devlin is hot, heavy and steady – or is it? The exploration of the relationship between John and Amelia is quite thought provoking, as it is never clear what either character knows about the other, and it will be interesting to see where their relationship goes next. The Visitor is haunting and hair-raising, and will have you looking over your shoulder (and under your front porch) for days after the last page is turned.
