Call them doxies, sausage dogs, badger hunters, or even Oscar Meyers, dachshunds are the clowns of the dog world. With their tiny little legs and barrel chests from whence come their mighty barks, they are perfect companions and fearsome defenders. Debut author Casey Griffin's new romance Must Love Wieners stars the little clowns and is the perfect tale for a dog lover.
Feisty Piper Summers will soon have her dream of becoming a veterinarian come true. Just a few more weeks of practicum, and she'll be a licensed vet, but she has to pay the bills in the meantime. Along with her volunteer work with the Dachshund Rescue Center, she works a myriad of low paying and more than slightly demeaning jobs. Driving a cab, or delivering pizzas, or performing singing telegrams, Piper always travels with her best friend, a black and tan rescue dachshund named Colin. He's a little guy with a big personality. It's while she's working one of those demeaning jobs, as a singing telegram girl in a barely-there cowgirl outfit, that Piper meets Aiden Caldwell, a gorgeous, take-your-breath-away, wealthy businessman, by literally falling into his lap. He's smitten. She denies it but she is smitten right back. Their romance is a rocky one because Aiden is always in business mode and Piper is so independent that she thinks any offer of help is a handout.
What raises Must Love Wieners above other romances are the furry friends who hope for a forever home, the canine co-stars of the Dachshund Rescue Center where Piper volunteers and where she hopes to work once she gets her diploma. Aiden has adopted Colin's girlfriend red doxie Sophie from the Center and hopes to hire Piper as Sophie's dog walker, which would allow Colin to see Sophie and Aiden to see Piper. It's obvious that what truly ties this human couple together, other than their chemistry, are their wieners.
But someone wants the Rescue Center closed and doesn't hesitate to use violent methods to get his or her point across. There are more suspects than in Murder She Wrote, and each one has an excellent motive to threaten Piper and the Center.
Must Love Wieners is the fun first book in a entertaining new series, the Rescue Dog Romances, and features the dogs and the volunteers at the Center who love them. The next book, The Beauty and The Wiener, will be out February 2017.
